The first rally in Uzbekistan within 20 years: demand is - to stop the activity of the Aluminum factory in Tajikistan.
Today, 1200 people held a protest demonstration at the new building of the Termez state University. From the information distributed by the Information Service of Uzbekistan Ecologic Movement, the participants demanded a stop to the activity at the Tajik Aluminum Factory, located in Tursunzoda city. As participants declared, the environmental harm brought by the factory seriously affects the Uzbek people who are living close to the neighboring country. Popular Movement “Birlik” held its last meeting in Uzbekistan before its independence and it has now been 20 years since the information agencies stopped publishing news about the meetings. The government expresses its opinion about this meeting through several Internet sites.
