16:45 - Parliament speakers address TurkPA plenary meeting in Baku
Parliament speakers of the participant countries addressed the first plenary meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking Countries (TurkPA) in Baku.

Chairman of the Kazakhstan parliament Oral Muhamedjanov wished TurkPA to be a strong organization like Council of Europe, OSCE and the Organization of the Islamic Conference. “We would like to see the organization to promote economic relations between the countries, to make legislative basis closer and to develop interparliamentary relations”.

Chairman of the Kyrgyzstan parliament Aytibay Tagayev wished TurkPA to be an exemplary. He said he believed that the organization would give an impetus to the extension of commercial relations between the Turkic-speaking countries, investments and development of the nations. He thinks that TurkPA member countries should sign agreements, to demonstrate unity and to develop regional cooperation. Tagayev urged for TurkPA enlargement.

Chairman of the Turkich parliament Mehmet Ali Shahin also focused on the extension of organizations. He said TurkPA countries had common values. He reminded about the summit of leaders of Turkic countries 17 years ago and said their support developed the idea of TurkPA meeting.

Shahin said he believed that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan would also join the Assembly. “I believe we will achieve it. We need in unity. We made historic step today”.

The Turkish speaker said TurkPA’s second plenary meeting would be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The TurkPA members will adopt its Charter and regulations for secretariat, elect Secretary General and deputies and then final document – Baku Declaration will be adopted at the meeting. // APA
