19:50 - Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan hold intergovernmental negotiations
Ashgabat hosted the next meeting of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission for trade, economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

Following the meeting, the sides signed a protocol. Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Minister Elyor Ganiev represented Uzbekistan and Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev represented Turkmenistan.

According to the information, the talks were held "in a constructive atmosphere and the sides exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation."

The sides noted the steady growth of trade turnover between the two countries and decided to expand the list of the nomenclature of goods and increase their mutual supplies, as well as create new joint ventures, a Turkmen governmental pres service reported.

The sides named the Turkmen-Uzavto JV specializing in the implementation and maintenance of cars in Turkmenistan among successful examples of cooperation.

The parties also agreed to hold the Festival of Friendship bbetween the two peoples in the Dashoguz province (region) of Turkmenistan in the second half of 2010.

The joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission was set up following Uzbek President Islam Karimov's official visit to Turkmenistan in December 2009. // Trend News Agency
